New York City: Sights, Scenes and Suggestions

Home again…..after three stimulating days in New York City.  I’ve loved this city for 40 years.  It is filled with memories of visits during my early married years, excursions with our children and multiple trips to cover the fashion shows for the Press.  Before the children were born I worked in retail, making buying trips to Seventh Avenue every month.  I have loved my  business trips with Jack and forays into the arts, shopping, food and fun of this marvelous metropolis.

It’s a city that stimulates and challenges.  I often wonder what it would be like to live there. Would I be so enamored?  Maybe not.  I do know I love to visit.  I’m posting here a few of the sights and scenes that caught my eye on this most recent trip.

How can you not love a dog walker on a bright and sunny day?

The windows at Saks on Fifth Avenue always draw me for a look.  Here you can see the window and the reflection of the street scene.  I also love the windows at Bergdorf’s and Barneys. This trip I especially liked the windows of the new Ralph Lauren store on Madison and 72nd Street. Stunning.

Gorgeous and eye catching windows are part of the grand old era in retailing, pre-Internet.  I’m glad the tradition survives in New York City.

This whirling string caught the attention of lots of folks as they made their way up the grand staircase of Museum of Modern Art.  Fascinating to see the wind from the fans keep the strings swirling about.

An exhibit on kitchens was a draw at the MOMA.  Unusual for an art museum but interesting none-the-less.

While I went to MOMA to see the Abstract Expressionists Exhibit, I thoroughly enjoy the building itself.  A work of art in its own right.

It was a beautiful day for a stroll in Central Park.  Another park I am particularly fond of is the High Line.  Worth a visit.

Made me smile.

These vehicles caught my eye.  Don’t see stuff like this in Michigan.

Fans of Art Deco will love this hotel.  The Chatwal on 44th Street. This is a great spot for a drink or a bite to eat before or after the theater.  The attention to detail in design is quite astounding.   Design Mavens, put it on your list.

Captured at the Museum of Art and Design on Columbus Circle.  This is a fabulous building, great museum and contains a particularly nice museum store.  I am told the restaurant on the 9th floor has spectacular views and worth going to for lunch.

Unfortunately it was closed for a private party the day I was there.

Will put it on my list for “next time.”

Yes, New York, I’ll be back!
