Chicago: Refrigerators on Parade

Normally when I go to Chicago and make my way down the Magnificant Mile of Michigan Avenue I am drawn to the delights in the windows of the the ritzy and fashionable  stores,  the wild getups of the people on the streets  and the always fabulous floral or botanical displays along the sidewalks.  Always a treat.

Recently I found myself fascinated with refrigerators. Yep.  Michigan Avenue is lined with “repurposed” refrigerators.  “Fine Art Fridges” is sponsored by ComEd, designed to raise awareness of the recycling program they offer.

The outdoor public exhibit includes nine fridges, transformed into works of art, taking the idea of decorating the door of a traditional refrigerator with magnets to a whole new level.

I captured a few with my camera.  Stroll the street with me and enjoy.

Perhaps decorating one’s refrigerator will catch on. My own is covered with artwork by a famous budding young artist, Abigail Schad!

Very creative. I believe that one’s fridge can be the best piece of art in the house…works of art, photos of family and friends, magnets from favorite places one visits…etc. Food storage is second.

GREAT use of an old fridge. I remember my son in law, Steve, who had all kinds of interesting “cut outs” on his refrigerator. He arranged in such a way that it became an interesting collage.
